Sorry to disappoint you all – but a safety decision has concluded that it isn’t safe to run novice night tonight.
We’ll hopefully see you next week.
The Rotary Club of Teignmouth are launching their new Seine boat for the youth of Teignmouth.
‘Knot Tide’ will be blessed and launched at 1pm on Sunday 6th May by the lifeboat slipway.
Please come along to support and bring any Under 18′s who might want to try rowing!
And here’s hoping for some sunny weather!?
Sorry for the delay in publishing the race results. We now have a template that will automatically update after every race result has been confirmed with the Race Officer and our Membership Secretary.
Umpires Report
Firstly may I apologize to the ladies crews for the delayed start and poor performance of the starting pistol. We wanted to start you into the wind but that proved impossible, hence the delay. We will strive to place buoys in such a way that in future races, you will start against the elements. In future all start instructions will be done by VHF radio only.
In the ladies race only no.9 was deemed over the line. No. 27 was called just over by one spotter but behind by the other and was given the benefit of the doubt. No mens teams were over. Coxes performed buoy turns very well. One cox ,though not penalized will be spoken to regarding following umpires calls properly and responding to other coxes calls. It is important that when a cox hails another to implement an umpires decision or for any safety issue, the other cox responds by verbal reply and actions if required.
Happy racing
Juniors registration and coxes meeting at 1530hrs
Adults coxes meeting at 1700hrs
The ladies are racing first and we would like all mens crews to stay on the beach until all ladies change overs have taken place.
As we are short of volunteers this year, a crew will be chosen at random to help put the race buoys away when they reach the beach.
The sponsoring pub for this race is The Jolly Sailor.
Happy racing

Teign rowers had an excellent start to the Gig racing regatta season at Dartmouth on Saturday. All 10 of the competing River Teign Rowing Club crews achieved a top 5 position, with the best result – 2nd place – going to the Ladies A crew.
The Dart Regatta is held annually as a precursor to next month’s World Championship event in the Isles of Scilly. Twelve clubs from around the south west took part in a series of races, lasting around 15 minutes each, with accumulated points producing an overall winning club.
The standard was set for Teign by the Ladies B crew in the first race. Two excellent buoy turns, including ‘oar tossing’ by bow rower Sue Thulborn, saw them move up from 6th to finish in 3rd place. The Ladies A’s then stormed their start to go straight in to 2nd place behind Salcombe. Consistent, strong rowing combined with good fitness levels saw them maintain this position throughout the race finishing 10 boat lengths clear of the rest of the field.
The Men’s races were kicked off by the B crews where an exhilarating finish saw Teign overtake Dart on the very last stroke of the race to finish 4th. The A crew were equally strong, finishing in the same position, having stayed 4th over the whole course just behind Caradon, Salcombe and Cattewater.
The over 40’s continued the streak of impressive rowing, with the ladies coming 5th, and 2 men’s crews crossing the line within seconds of each other for 4th and 5th places in the veterans races. This was followed by an ad hoc mixed crew who surprised even themselves by also finishing 5th.
The remaining races saw the clubs’ C crews battle it out. Teign ladies rowed a long relaxed stroke that took them across the line in 5th, a very good result considering several other clubs had placed a couple of A team rowers in their boats. The Men’s C crew were determined not to be left out and finished the day off in style by gaining another excellent 3rd spot.
Due to bad weather, the Open Day has been cancelled. We hope to hold it later in the year.
If you are passing by after 1200hrs, volunteers will probably be selling off the freshly made cakes.

These are the start positions for Race One The start times and coxes meeting details to follow.
