New novice crew each season?

Postby bretty » Thu May 21, 2009 7:46 pm

Just an idea - having experienced how difficult it was to get a crew, boat and cox together to race - how about the club has a boat and cox (and maybe one experienced rower?) available each season and they then select keen / committed novices from the 'novice nights' - I think this could be a great way to keep a flow of new talent into the club.....

Not sure what people think and whether this could be a runner with the committee?

***Yes great idea... I have just joined as a full member along with a friend Kate, plus another new friend Sally ( Rowed Before) met at novice night.

We are all desperate to row properly and to race ASAP, so not just the 20mins or so once a week, but where do we go from here????

If you have had any volunteers for your idea.
1 boat 1 cox and an expereinced rower ........ WE ARE YOUR GIRLS- all up for it :-)

We have been told we are naturals at it, just need some fine tuning and lots of practice.

Look foward to hearing from you and anyone else who can help us out.

Enthusiastically yours Amanda[/color]

At this stage I would recommend getting your crew together and then asking a club registered cox to maybe take you out in one of the club boats (although I am fairly sure that you will all need to be full club members to do this on a non-club night) - I actually row with 2 club coxes and will have a chat with them to see whether they might be able to help out - but they are both currently coxing ladies crews......you may also find it is easier to get a cox to help out after the end of this season - end of August / early September.....but I would still try and get some other sessions in before then.

Don't give up! It is really difficult to secure a cox and boat - it is very much about getting yourself known and getting some contacts. People at the club are very helpful, but I generally find fairly busy at the moment as we are in peak racing and novice night season!

Good luck and I will ask one of them to post a reply if they can help out in between time....

Any help you can give us to speed the process up would be great, thanks a lot.
We are all local so could come out on a session most evenings or weekends at very short notice.
WELL I can :-) and I think the others can.... ha ha.
We will all be there tomorrow WED night if YOU or anyone else can HELP.

You may find it easier to undertake coxing training amongst yourselves. A shortage of coxes this year for sure. Most people (including myself) are very helpful but if you can't find someone to do it, you could always do it yourself until you find someone!

And before the safety commitee throw the book at me, you must be certified (or certifiable! :D) to be a cox.
